Kung Hei Fat Choy or... Happy New Year Chinese Style

Kung Hei Fat Choy or... Happy New Year Chinese Style

Littlegreen welcomed in The Chinese New Year in assembly. We found out that it is the year of the rat and what that means. People born in the year of the rat are adaptable, smart, cautious, alert, positive, flexible, outgoing and cheerful and tend to be good business people. They can be a bit stubborn and fussy! Their lucky numbers are 2 and 3 and lucky colours are gold, blue and green. We learnt about costumes and dance and how the Chinese prepare and celebrate New Year. We tasted lots of delicious food as you’ll see from the photographs and watched a Lion Dance which was amazingly colourful. It’s really good to learn about different cultures and we all enjoyed the experience.

Year 9 Preparing For The Future

Year 9 Preparing For The Future

This week and last week year 9 pupils have been out and about visiting Chichester and Brinsbury colleges. This is to give the pupils a taster of college life, get to know the tutors and to find out about the courses on offer. On Tuesday we visited Brinsbury College, it was a beautiful sunny day perfect for the rural setting, and so quiet all you could hear were the birds tweeting in the Avery. We were so lucky to have a personal tour from Julie Whitworth where we popped in to say hello to Stu head of construction. We were also able to visit the animal care centre, the pupils were so impressed with all the different species, goats, ferrets and more exotic species that need extra care and attention. We had lunch in the student union cafe before heading back to school an amazing day for all.

A Stunning Start by Keystage 2

A Stunning Start by Keystage 2

We have started our new topic Towers, Tunnels and Turrets Topic with a tour of the tunnels in Fort Purbrook. Our favourite tunnel was the 'thunder' tunnel. We asked Tom our guide some fantastic questions and we guessed that it took 10 million bricks to build the fort. We are now looking at castles as part of our topic. We have been writing instructions on 'How to be a Knight' and have designed our own Coat of Arms which every Knight needs. We thought about the colours, animals and symbols that best represent us and wrote motto's for our shields. We have been finding out the names of the different parts of a castle - portcullis, bailey, barbican and the keep and we are going to use this information to draw our castles. In art we have used Paul Klee 'Castle and Sun' as our inspiration. As a keystage we are reading 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' which we are already enjoying and want to find out what happens next….

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the new term and a Happy New Year to you all from Littlegreen It was great to see our pupils back in school this week and they seem to have just about managed to get up early after their Christmas break! We are looking forward to a busy term with lots of things planned. Our primary themed project this term is called Towers, Turrets and Tunnels and our KS3 project is called Explorers. These themed projects help us to make learning interesting, exciting and practical and for example, our primary pupils are all going to go on a tunnel walk at Fort Purbrook as part of their Stunning Start to the term. Our KS4 pupils will be focusing on their college coursework and year 11 will be preparing for their exams as well as finalising their future plans. For families we have planned a series of coffee mornings and annual review meetings as well as an open invitation to meet with Louise, Ella or Alison should you have any questions we can help you with. We will also continue to send home regular newsletters to keep you updated. Don’t forget to check out our Facebook page. We had a great New Year’s assembly when we welcomed in 2020 and thought about our personal and class goals for the year. We look forward to a happy and productive term Alison and Louise

Littlegreen Christmas Trees

Littlegreen Christmas Trees

We enjoyed celebrating Christmas, the first since we joined Solent Academies Trust. Our festivities included making decorations out of ‘slices’ of natural wood for our Christmas Tree in the hall as well as decorating our lovely trees on the stairs in the main hallway and in reception. We enjoyed our whole school assembly where we learnt all about different special trees - tall trees, wide trees, quirky trees, colourful trees, ancient trees and of course Christmas trees. We had a quiz and competition was fierce! On the theme of tress we also had a competition for our classes and school staff teams (site team, cook etc..) to design and make a Christmas Tree out of recyclable materials. These were absolutely amazing and Father Christmas (who happened to call in that day), helped us to judge them. Take a look at all the photographs, which one would you have chosen?

Christmas Celebrations

Christmas Celebrations

We spent the last week of term celebrating Christmas in various ways. The highpoint was our Christmas Lunch prepared by our very own fabulous cook, Nikki. The whole school sat down to together in the school hall and enjoyed a traditional meal which included homemade Christmas pudding! After lunch we helped clear away and we then enjoyed our Christmas Littlegreen’s Got Talent Show. We have some very talented pupils… the staff were a bit shy though, maybe they’ll perform next year. On the last day of term we had a surprise visit from father Christmas who travelled to Littlegreen in an amazing sleigh made by Littlegreen elves! He brought gifts for everyone which were really appreciated. To finish the term we had our final assembly when we thought about the meaning of Christmas. Our assembly was called Christmas Unwrapped and we followed the story by unwrapping the layers of an enormous Christmas gift. The end of a brilliant term.
