Friday 16 September 2022 Lower School Autumn Term Stunning Start Lower school discovered the Earth's layers this week to kick start their topic Extreme Earth. We found out that our planet has a crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth. It is like the skin of an apple and is extremely thin compared to the other layers. The crust is about 10 miles deep and is made up of rock and other loose materials. The mantle is the next largest layer, and it is the largest – an estimated 1,800 miles of solid hot rock.
